Part L 1B is a section of the UK Building Regulations relating to the conservation of fuel and power (ie, carbon and energy reduction).

Keeping things simple, the Part L regulation means that when a flat roof is now replaced in the UK your Local Authority Building Control (LABC) should be notified and an application submitted. The homeowner then has an obligation to upgrade the current insulation allowing LABC to issue a certificate on completion of works

The Government are now under pressure to meet The Greening Government Commitment aimed to reduce environmental impact by 2015. The Government needs improvement of thermal insulation and boxes ticked. The Part L is law and like FENSA is required with double glazing and has to be submitted when a sale of property takes place you are now required to produce an LABC certificate for a flat roof replacement.

High-Tech Membrane Roofing are a member of the Competent Roofer which is the Government’s authorised Competent Person Scheme for England & Wales that allows professional roofing contractors to self-certify that their roof refurbishment work complies with Building Regulations.

The Regulation applies to any roof over a heated area of the property and if 25% or more of the roof is to be removed. A repair is exempt to a garage or any building which is not heated.

Please be advised and do not get caught out, please seek further advice from your local LABC or visit the Competent Roofer site at www.competentroofer.co.uk .

Remember you are in the safest hand with High-Tech Membrane Roofing with a rock solid guarantee and all work will achieve the correct LABC paperwork on completion of works.
